LOLA FAY HUMBLE SUSSMAN, 87, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on September 3, 2022. She was born June 10, 1935, in Wisner, La., to Jefferson Clark and Lola Alice (MacDonald) Humble. Lola was a loving and devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to supporting and caring for her family. During her working years, she was a school teacher and then a legal secretary before spending years assisting her husband, who was a Certified Public Accountant, in his practice in New Orleans where the couple made their home. So dedicated were the couple, they planned their children's births not to take place during tax season. As an empty nester, Lola worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in New Orleans. Through the years, she joined her husband in his hobbies of bait casting, fishing, and competitive pistol shooting. She also spent years attending aerobics classes and eventually became a part-time professional instructor. She also volunteered her talents to lead classes for her colleagues at USDA at the end of their workdays. The couple relocated to Little Rock in 2005 to be closer to their daughter after they lost their home of nearly 50 years and everything in it to Hurricane Katrina.
Lola is survived by one daughter: Linda Haymes (Charles), of Cammack Village, Ark., and one son: David Sussman (Diane) of Nashville, Tenn., and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 50 years, Samuel Sussman; a sister, Della Coughran; and a brother, Vernon Humble.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Alzheimer's research and treatment, a local animal shelter or your favorite charity. The family would like to thank Beverly Villines, Leslie Fendley and the volunteers at Helping Hand of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and Phillip, Chris and the rest of the staff at The Green House Cottages of Poplar Grove for the love and kindness they shared with Lola during their care of her.
