Mary Ann Greenwood, 82, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022, in Fayetteville. She was born August 14, 1940, in Little Rock, Ark. Mary Ann was a dedicated businesswoman, educator, philanthropist, leader, mentor, friend, mother and wife. She received her PhD in Economics from the University of Arkansas and founded Greenwood and Associates, an investment advisory firm, in 1982 that continues as Greenwood Gearhart Inc. She was an early industry adopter of the fiduciary advisory model and a national leader in the economics profession. Mary Ann was an ardent supporter of the University of Arkansas and the arts and worked to ensure these institutions thrived. She was the first to raise her hand to be involved, have a seat at the table, or attend an annual gala for numerous philanthropic endeavors. She was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for her community, institution and public service. Her legacy will live on through the impact she made on these organizations and the mentoring of students and employees. She was preceded in death by her parents, Deane and Mary (Bates) Sallee, and her brother, Thomas Bates. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Reed Greenwood, one daughter, Anne Sallee Greenwood and her husband James Katowich of Hot Springs, Ark., one son, Robert Reed Greenwood of Fayetteville, and one grandson, Matthew Reed Greenwood. A memorial service will be held, 2 p.m., Monday, September 26, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 224 N. East Avenue in Fayetteville.
