James "Jimmy" Hughes

James "Jimmy" Hughes passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. He was born July 12, 1932, in Pulaski County to Daniel and Sadie Hughes. Jimmy was an active member of Henderson United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Wesley Class. He served on many committees and volunteered on mission trips. He served on the church council, a trustee, SPR and loved helping with the food pantry. Jimmy retired after 40 years with AP&L (Entergy). He was an avid hunter, for several years serving as president of Temperance Hill hunting club in Fordyce. He was a member of Creech Deer Club and Huey Duck Club. He enjoyed all sports, played and coached fast-pitch softball, then switched to slow-pitch. After retiring he played and coached senior softball. One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 2012. Jimmy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather always ready to help his family, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Melva Grandon; and grandson, Billy Hughes. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 70 years, Ruthie Crook Hughes; sisters, Jewell, Dorothy, Cleo, Clara, Edna; one brother, Billy; two sons, Rick (Karen) of Texas, and Gary (Maurice) of Mabelvale; cherished grandkids, Heather Morton, Amanda Weatherly, Derek Weikel, and Wayne (Hollie) Hughes; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022, with a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Henderson United Methodist Church, 13000 W. Baseline Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72210.
