Wheeldestrian, the brainchild of Arkansas native Helen Dowdell, includes a sign mounted between traffic lights displaying the international accessibility symbol. Modified pedestrian signal heads (those metal boxes that flash “Walk” and “Don’t Walk”) are situated on each side of the intersection with call buttons used to activate the system.
