How do you like your new mayor now
Newspaper could have sent a reporter who knows something about golf to do this story. Ah heck, Ahoecker, that’s racist. Go away.
This will be a good decision if they do the right thing with the property. Bike/hiking trails, Central Park-style softball fields, etc. Golf is a declining sport. These closures are the result of the demands people make to cut taxes. When you make tax cuts, services suffer. You can't have both. It's expensive to operate a golf course.
There are bike trails all around Little Rock that are not being utilized. Ex: a very expensive one was built on Scott Hamilton Road. I've never seen anyone on it. Closing these golf courses will make it almost impossible to find tee times at other public courses in Little Rock. Very disappointed in this decision. If the Mayor and Board want to cut costs, there are many other ways. Maybe just close one golf course right now. Why both at once? Sad times for Little Rock.
Way to go mayor! Either make these guys pay enough to support the course to breakeven or shut them down. Golf is a slowly dying sport...maybe put in bike trails that people can enjoy with little operating costs.
Another way to save money would be to cut all city bus services west of Shackleford/I-430 by 2021.
A political move by the mayor. There will be no cost savings after installing and maintaining multiple areas illustrated in yesterday’s newspaper. Hurst won’t be satisfied either.
War Memorial Golf Course is the one most convenient for central LR residents and is a favorite for many because of the tradition of playing there for so many years. For Little Rock to remain an attractive and prestigious central city it needs to retain these type of amenities. Please find a way to keep this attractive course open.Ralph Mashburn
In past years, I have played War Memorial many times. My golf partner and I found that it was our best choice of places to play in Little Rock since neither of us was of us had access to any of the private courses.
The only time that War Memorial is a bad place to play is after a Razorback game at War Memorial and that's because the course is used for parking for the game and some fans were neither careful nor courteous and respectful of the fact that they were parking on a golf course, either by tearing up spots on the course by careless driving or by leaving their trash on the course. Because those that maintain the course have been diligent and because most Razorback fans are courteous, problems did not last more than a day or two.
That said, my golf partner and I mainly played War Memorial because it is just a good golf course and one that we could afford to play. I along with many golfers in Little Rock will greatly miss War Memorial.
I say keep War Memorial Golf Course open.
War memorial should stay open It is smaller and more economically to maintain !
