Packing too light illuminates an age-old truth

I always enjoy your writing!.. This kind of reminds me of when I observed a lady losing her cellphone/purse as she stepped off a curb at the Dallas Love field during the Fort Lauderdale airport shooting. I was able to point out where it fell down a storm drain, and luckily her ride was already there.

JOHN BRUMMETT: An exercise in avoidance

OK, firearms worshipers, let's try to stay on subject. It is possible to have reasonable, effective, firearms regulations without having all of them confiscated. That is about as likely in America as a zombie apocalypse, although I think some people are still afraid of a slave uprising. Two good examples of nations with the kinds of firearms laws we could model ours after are Switzerland and Israel. Switzerland has a strong marksmanship culture with an emphasis on responsible ownership. Israel, of course, has universal military service, combined with restrictions on civilian ownership. And neither of them has had government confiscation of firearms. Remember, the reason bad guys have firearms, is because our laws make it easy for supposed "good guys" are sell to bad guys or if nothing else, be irresponsible about how they transport and store their firearms. The classic example being the number of firearms found in carry on luggage at airports.

OTHERS SAY: Trump's tax returns are essential reading

Historically, laws (including the Ten Commandments) are a response to people not naturally doing what is right. Of course, selective interpretation of both creates a new set of problems, and more laws, and more lawyers.

EDITORIAL: Internet explorer: Private sector means private sector

Are we sure we want the definition of "fake news" to be determined by politicians?

Workers swept up, not employers

The ICE version of "round up the usual suspects". Or another version of those who write the laws determine the definition of justice and who it applies to.

SE CUPP: We're all culpable in the culture of political hate

I often wonder, after the Second Amendment types have somehow used their personal firearms to takeover an oppressive government. Will they still let liberals to keep having personal firearms?

EDITORIAL: Neither the right in this country, nor the left, have real answers on shootings

All the excuses that the unlimited right to possess any firearm crowd use, also apply to Israel, Switzerland, and Canada. Notice how they can have reasonable firearms regulations, and still have not have government oppression. Meanwhile in America we have unlimited dark money political contributions and almost unrestricted gerrymandering of Congressional districts. As to air travel security, can we start with whenever someone is so absent minded that they "unknowingly" pack a firearm in their luggage, they not only loose that weapon, but also any other weapons they own?

PHILIP MARTIN: What you want to believe

Well written, Philip. Unfortunately introspection and self-criticism are obviously not familiar to Donald Trump, GENERALMAC or "Barefoot".

COLUMNIST: The truth is out there

As usual, GNERALMAC is wrong. The tattoos were used primarily at Auschwitz and Birkenau, and after the inmates arrived.

As to solving the border problem, we just need to actually punish the employers who profit from illegally hiring the illegal immigrants.
