Merging districts for Arkansas levees gets look

Nothing like a major flood to cause the powers to be to get to work. Nothing like the water dropping out for them to get back to the status quo.

Meeting on Little Rock schools hits a nerve

POPMOM nailed it. I was shocked when I saw students waiting on the bus at 8:15 in the morning. Later starts and earlier releases in a shorter year are coming to roost. Surely there are a few "above average" students coming out of the LRSD but I am not seeing them, then you see parents, teachers, and administrators yelling at each other showing us why the schools have become what they are. Everyone needs to watch the movie "Idiocracy" for a preview of our future. If this is the return on investment of my tax dollars, I want my tax money refunded. Building "grand palace" facilities are not the answer to these issues.

Fed tweaking post-'08 rules for U.S. banks

Have any of you asked a banking official something as basic as "what is a bank stress test and how it is conducted"? They look at you like you are speaking a foreign language. Heaven forbid if you ask them what they know about bank acquisitions and why they occur. I can go on and on...

Arkansas Department of Correction sergeant accused of smuggling drugs into prison

JiminyC56, do you mean her "inside" hustle? So what are the charges for a guard doing something like this? Should they be upgraded due to her position of influence? They will not stop this until they make the consequences severe. People who violate a position of trust or power are the lowest of the low...They report that when the other guard doing the search said "look, drugs, look drugs" she asked why he said it twice. He replied, "I didn't, it was an echo". (My apologies to the late Jay Hickman)

Arkansas school district chief recalls casino pitch; JP argues private talks don’t count as meeting

So how did Pope county get on amendment 100 anyway? Maybe this goes back deeper than we can imagine. Why not any other county?

FBI: Truck driver threatened mass shooting at Memphis church

Let's pretend that we have red flag laws. What are we going to do with all the recent incidents with "maroons" like this? Build a prison to house them and turn out the lights? Copy cats or not, there are a ton of these types out there. Rehab is not easy or cheap.

For Quapaws, Arkansas casino bid goes smoothly

Chairman John Berrey said, "We're not a for-profit business like these Mississippi guys or whatever." Really? "A casino's net gambling receipts will be taxed at 13% on the first $150 million and 20% on receipts above that amount". I don't know about all you out there but to a yokel like me, this seems like a pretty good profit forecast. I hope I am wrong but I don't see all that much tourism dollars coming into Pine Bluff. That means the majority will come from the local areas. Remember the people that went bust when the Splash Casino opened up? And the ripple down effect on other businesses

Little Rock man took purse from 102-year-old woman, police say

I agree with a comment someone said their dad used to tell them. " Some folks just ain't no damn good".
