State's arguments to Supreme Court

The state Department of Education has submitted its written arguments to the Arkansas Supreme Court in the state takeover of the Little Rock School District case.

Brad Bolding complaint

The attorney for former North Little Rock High School football coach Brad Bolding has filed a lawsuit against the North Little Rock School District to contest the firing of the coach earlier in the month. David Couch, who represents Bolding, filed the lawsuit on April 24 in Pulaski County Circuit Court.

Exxon Mobil complaint

Two subsidiaries of Exxon Mobil have agreed to pay almost $5 million in government penalties and to take corrective and precautionary actions as a result of an oil spill in Mayflower in 2013, the Justice Department said. The penalties and other requirements are part of a proposed consent decree set to be filed in U.S. District Court in Little Rock on Wednesday, April 22.

UALR announced Monday a contract extension and raise for Foley. Foley's contract was extended one year to 2023-2024, and he'll get an immediate raise to $215,000.

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge filed a motion Monday that a retired state Supreme Court justice and a special justice appointed to the state Supreme Court last year should not decide whether gay marriage is legal in the state since those spots have now been filled with newly elected justices.

Plantiffs' motion for sanctions

A North Little Rock lawyer claims employees of the Fort Smith Police Department tried to hack into his computer by giving him a hard drive that “contained malicious software” meant to render his computer unsafe for use. In a motion for sanctions filed on Friday, Matthew Campbell also claims the police department deleted entire email accounts rather than turn documents over as ordered by a Sebastian County Circuit Court judge on May 9. The case was originally filed in 2013 under the “Arkansas Whistle-Blower Act.”

Maples motion to dismiss new case

Attorney Cheryl Maples filed a motion April 8, 2015, withdrawing a previous motion from plaintiffs' in a same-sex marriage case that requested a retired state Supreme Court justice and a special justice appointed to the state Supreme Court last year should be allowed to decide whether gay marriage is legal in the state. The new motion filed in April states that newly elected judges should be allowed to hear the case, making CV15-227, a separate case to decide which judges should hear the original case, moot.

Wagoner amended motion

Attorney Jack Wagoner filed a motion April 13, 2015, to amend a previous motion that withdrew a motion from plaintiffs' in a same-sex marriage case requesting a retired state Supreme Court justice and a special justice appointed to the state Supreme Court last year be allowed to decide whether gay marriage is legal in the state. The new motion withdraws the plaintiffs' position on which judges should hear the original case.

On Thursday, April 2, 2015, Arkansas State Supreme Court Justice Rhonda Wood recused herself from CV-15-227, a separate case that will decide which justices hear arguments for the appeal of a ruling that the state ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.
