ARTclicks! is an art education program featuring online lesson plans related to Baum Gallery exhibits and is one of several ArtsFest events in Conway planned for Saturday, October 10. Ms. Depoyster's comments will be made in connection with the gallery's featured exhibit of contemporary Latino art: Cardinal Points / Puntos Cardinales. Born in Puerto Rico, her influences include the intense colors, landscapes and atmosphere of the Caribbean. She will display her original art work and discuss how her approach relates to her Latino heritage through the use of a combination of texture, layers, and brilliant color. Cardinal Points/Puntos Cardinales includes 56 works: photographs, prints, paintings, and mixed-media. The exhibit text panels and 28-page catalog are bilingual and discuss the development of contemporary Latino and Latin American art over the last few decades. The title phrase, cardinal points, refers to compass directions to illustrate how Latino and Latin American artists have "mapped" or found their way on a journey to examine their own distinctive viewpoints. Ms. Depoyster's paintings are part of private and public collections throughout the United States. She is a member of the Arkansas Artists Registry, The Arkansas League of Artists, and Vice President of the Arkansas Pastel Society. Her piece "Hay Field Glow" was awarded the Purchase Award from the Arkansas Arts Council and toured throughout Arkansas as part of the 2008 Small Works on Paper Exhibit. Furthermore, her painting "Diagnosis = Ovarian Cancer" was awarded Honorable Mention at the 50th Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Art Center and is featured in the 2009 CARTI Calendar, "The Art of Survival". Her painting "Holding Hands" won Best of Show at the Arkansas Pastel Society Show at Garven Gardens in Hot Springs. In 2009, her piece "All the Difference In the World" was awarded Honorable Mention at the 2009 Winthrop Rockfeller Institute Arts in the Air.
