WHAT'S IN A DAME: It's not a goodbye column!

I have to admit that I will not miss the
lo-cal junk food column, but I will definitely miss you. I feel like I have watched you grow up--and grow into a writer with more sophistication than you might be given credit for. I'm keeping my eye on you!

Looking back on the SAT

Um, my dictionary says that "vicissitude" means "a change in fortune or circumstance," as in "ups and downs" or "twists and turns." Happening by chance is a sort of secondary, associated meaning, but not the main one.

On your SIDE! We have met the enemy that’s hogging all the River Trail, and he is us.

Great article with some much-needed good advice! To which I can add another example from another perspective. When I ride my bike and approach pedestrians or slower bikers, I always say "On your left," and I sometimes add the sound of my bike bell (which I love because it reminds me of grade-school days). But I have discovered that often people ignore my warnings and keep right on walking or riding several abreast. And when I try to pass them on the left, they act very surprised and confused. I'm starting to think that many pedestrians don't really know what "on your left" means. And they are probably too young to remember the old-fashioned handlebar bells.

Flashback

What a nicely written little memoir! And thanks for reminding me of a good movie that I haven't thought about in a long time. More, please!
