JUST COMMUNITIES OF ARKANSAS 1OTH ANNUAL WALK FOR COMMUNITY

The celebration of our diverse and spirit-filled community kicks off at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th at the River Market pavilions. The Mabelvale African Drum & Groove Ensemble will perform for the crowd and the Little Rock and North Little Rock Mayor's Youth Councils will provide other children-friendly activities. Walk Co-Chairs, Patty Barker and Kareem Moody, and Honorary Chairs Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola, North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays, North Little Rock Police Chief Danny Bradley, Little Rock Fire Chief Greg Summers, North Little Rock Fire Chief Robert Mauldin and Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas will lead the festivities surrounding Just Communities of Arkansas' 10th Annual Walk for CommUNITY. EVERYONE is welcome at our Walk for CommUNITY. The one-mile Walk features a fully accessible route that begins and ends at the River Market Pavilions. Following the Walk, participants will enjoy refreshments and more entertainment in an environment meant to be inclusive and reflective of the wonderful diversity in Central Arkansas. Proceeds from the Walk support JCA's youth leadership retreats, such as Unitown and Ourtown for Teens. Ourtown for Teens is a weeklong summer leadership retreat for high school students from across Arkansas to experience, address and learn the value of diversity. Unitown is a two day retreat for high school students and their teachers. At Unitown, participants gain a better understanding of themselves and others whose race, religion, ethnicity or socio-economic status is different from their own. These delegates learn the skills needed to return to their school communities, "Ambassadors of Inclusion", working to break down barriers between groups within their school environment and beyond. These and other JCA leadership training programs support our mission of building communities where every person is valued, every voice is heard and everyone has an fair chance to succeed. Registration for the Walk is $20 for adults by November 1, $25 by November 7, and $30 the day of the event. Students walk for $10 and families may register for a maximum of $50. On November 8, walker check-in begins at 3 p.m. and the Walk ceremony starts at 3:45 p.m. To register, go to www.arkansasjustcommunities.org or call 372-5129.
