27th annual Beanfest and Outhouse Races
One of the most outrageous races in the country, the 27th annual Beanfest and Outhouse Races event is set for Oct. 29-31 in Mountain View. More than 1,000 pounds of pinto beans are cooked in huge iron kettles around the courthouse square. Folks come from all around armed with their secret ingredients to stir up the best batch of beans. Held in conjunction with the Beanfest event will be an Artisans Market on the Square on Oct. 30-31 on the east side of the courthouse on Peabody Street. Handmade contemporary arts and crafts, heritage arts, and folk arts will be for sale. Musicians will perform on the courthouse lawn.
