The August exhibit at the River Valley Arts Center gallery will have historical significance. Ginnie Tyson has prepared an exhibit called “A Heritage of Art: Women of My Grandmother’s Family,” which includes paintings by her grandmother, Margaret Pearl Howard Wooldridge, accompanied by paintings by Wooldridge’s daughters (one of whom was Tyson’s mother, Searcy Wooldridge Thompson) and others. Also showing will be paintings by Tyson and by her sister, Barbara Thompson Sengbusch, as well as work by Tyson’s daughters, Gail Tyson Murdoch and Emory Tyson Molitor. “I remember my mother telling people she and her six sisters were all double majors in music and art,” Tyson said. “This exhibit grew out of my realization of how uncommon this family history might be. I thought such an exhibit might provide a sort of history of art over a certain period of time.” Her grandmother was born in Troy, Tenn., in 1873, so the exhibit shows paintings from the late 19th century until now. The artist reception opening this exhibit is Sunday, August 1 from 1:00-3:00p.m. at the Arts Center, 1001 East B Street, Russellville. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
