INVASIVE PLANT SPECIES ON THE BUFFALO RIVER LIBRARY PROGRAM
Buffalo National River Partners welcomes back National Park Service
speaker, Chuck Bitting, at the Boone County Library, Tuesday, August 24,
from 5:30 - 6:30. Chuck will discuss, "Invasive Plant Species." The
library is located at 221 West Stephenson in Harrison and the program is
free to the public.
The United States Department of Agriculture defines an invasive plant
species as an "introduced species that can thrive in areas beyond their
natural range." These plants are characteristically adaptable, aggressive
and have a high reproductive capacity, often choking out native vegetation.
Their vigor combined with a lack of natural enemies often leads to outbreak
populations. Please join Chuck as he discusses the invasive plants, how you
can identify these species, and what you can do to prevent their spread in
the Ozarks, Buffalo National River, and in your own backyard.
