Fall 2010 speaker series begins August Programs at the Clinton School "The Effects of the Gulf Oil Spill," George Crozier, executive director of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. (Sturgis Hall) - Located at the mouth of Mobile Bay, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is located in an area directly affected by the Gulf Oil Spill. Cozier, an expert in coastal zone management, is currently monitoring the effects of the spill on the coasts of Alabama and Louisiana. "Gasland," a documentary screening with director Josh Fox Friday, August 20, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. (Sturgis Hall) - Fox will screen and discuss his film, "Gasland," about the rise in natural gas exploration in America as a result of new drilling technology known as "fracking." Winner of the Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize, the film explores the risks involved with the new method. "One Block: A New Orleans Neighborhood Rebuilds," photographer Dave Anderson Monday, August 23, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. (Sturgis Hall) *Book signing to follow - Anderson will discuss and display photos from his new book, "One Block," a photo essay which follows the reconstruction efforts of a single block in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. James Miller, managing director of the Mississippi Community Health House Network Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. (Sturgis Hall) - Miller will discuss his organization’s efforts, modeled on a successful program in Iran, to create health houses across Mississippi to provide better health care to impoverished parts of the state. Jim Gerstein, executive director of Democracy Corps Monday, August 30, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. (Sturgis Hall) - Gerstein is executive director of Democracy Corps, a non-profit organization that conducts public opinion research and provides strategic advice to Democrats and progressive organizations. Batu Kutelia, Republic of Georgia ambassador to the United States Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. (Sturgis Hall) - Kutelia has served as Georgian ambassador to the United States, Canada and Mexico since December 2008.
