Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher

Conway Community Arts has announced the cast for its upcoming production of Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher. Veteran actors Len Schlientz will portray Morrie and Tom McLeod will perform the role of Mitch. Both actors are from Conway and have appeared in numerous productions for Conway Community Arts. The play is from the non-fiction novel of the same name and chronicles the last days of Morrie, a college professor and his former student, Mitch. When Mitch finds out that his mentor has been diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease), he begins visiting his ailing teacher, picking up where they left off as professor/student years earlier. The story was made into a 1999 TV movie and featured Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria. The production is under the direction of Carla Grant. Production dates are July 29, 30, 31, and August 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8 at McCastlain Hall on the UCA campus. Tickets go on sale Monday, July 19 and are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The play is funded, in part, by the Arkansas Arts Council. All proceeds from the production will benefit the ALS Association. Conway Community Arts Association is a member of the American Association of Community Theaters and has been a cultural presence in Conway for over 35 years.
