T Tauri Film Festival Screening Schedule Announced~ Festival Celebrates America’s Outstanding Young Filmmakers The screening and awards segment of the 6th annual T Tauri Youth Film Festival will take place July 29-31 in Independence Hall on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. Free parking is available. Films will be screened in both the auditorium and the Lecture Hall (Room 103). This year’s festival received 144 entries from 17 states and Canada, all created by students 18 and under. Entries were received in the following categories: Comedy, Drama, Long Documentary, Short Documentary, Animation, Experimental, and Public Service Announcement. The festival also awards an Arkanstar! Award to the outstanding Arkansas filmmaker and “The Kid with a Camera” Award to the most outstanding film made by young people working without support from a school or after-school program. The T Tauri hand-thrown ceramic trophies are created each year by David and Becki Dahlstedt of Mountain View Pottery. Students in the Lyon College APPLE Upward Bound project served as the festival’s principal judges for the sixth consecutive year, with assistance from students in Cave City Junior High School and Midland High School. Fifty films from America’s outstanding young filmmakers will be screened at this year’s T Tauri Film Festival, including all of the award winners, Official Selections, and films created in the T Tauri Movie Camp workshops. Film festival president Bob Pest, who coordinates the judging every year, watched all 144 entries and labeled this year’s films “the best ever.” “The bar just keeps getting higher,” he added.
