We will discover what to look for when you're birdwatching, how to use binoculars and spotting scopes, the best places to look for birds, and much more! Meeting place: Kingfisher Trailhead Admission: Free 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. Birdwatching Hike: Kingfisher Trail Grow your 2010 Arkansas bird list with Park Interpreter Susan! The Kingfisher Trail offers several different habitats in one small area, and the possibility of seeing lots of different bird species. Bring binoculars if you have them. Get an up close and personal look using several of your senses to explore Arkansas mammals with Park Interpreter Susan. This program is great for the whole family! Meeting place: Visitor Center Admission: Free Friday, March 5 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Birdwatching Hike: Arkansas Arboretum Grow your 2010 Arkansas bird list with Park Interpreter Susan! Explore the natural divisions of Arkansas at the Arboretum while watching for birds. This trail is a hidden gem of Pinnacle Mountain State Park...you'll be surprised at what you find! Meeting place: Arboretum Trailhead Admission: Free 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Home School Days: Frogs Looking for frogs has been a favorite past-time for many kids throughout the years. Whether it’s to gross your sister out or trying to figure out what is making all that noise, frogs have been important as we grow up. Join Park Interpreter Courtney as we learn a little more about this important creature. Meeting place: Visitor Center Admission: Free 4 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Mammal Relays Put your knowledge of Arkansas's most famous mammals to the test with this easy game that is great for all ages. Discover some new facts with fun competition that's sure to get your blood pumping! Meeting place: Visitor Center Admission: Free Saturday, March 6 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Luxury Birdwatching Interested in birdwatching, but not sure about the hiking part? Park Interpreter Susan has the solution for you: luxury birdwatching at Pinnacle Mountain State Park! Beat the weather, wind, and bugs by staying indoors at the park's wildlife observation window and Arkansas River overlook. Bring a pair of binoculars if you have them. Meeting place: Visitor Center Admission: Free 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Wetland Bingo Wetlands contain more than just water. Join Park Interpreter Kristina for a stroll around the wetlands to see if you can complete a wetland bingo! Meeting place: Kingfisher Trailhead Admission: Free 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Packing for Hiking 101 Meet a park interpreter to learn how to pack your backpack for safe and enjoyable hikes along Arkansas's trails. This workshop will feature gear with samples on hand for you to see and try out, and end with a hike on a short section of trail. Advance payment required. Meeting place: Visitor Center Admission: $5 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Sweet Sounds of Spring From the wetlands to the upland ridges at Pinnacle Mountain State Park, you can hear the sweet sounds of spring. As you walk through the park, stop by and visit with Park Interpreter Kristina to discover the producers of these sounds. Meeting place: West Summit Trailhead Admission: Free Sunday, March 7 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Ouachita Trail Hiking Workshop Have you ever wanted to hike the Ouachita Trail? Join us as we cover advanced hiking information for those who wish to hike long stretches of trail. Advance payment is required for this workshop. Meeting place: Visitor Center Admission: $5 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Reptile Review Park Interpreter Susan will be spending all afternoon with the reptiles of Pinnacle Mountain State Park! This first program will explore all 5 groups of reptiles found in Arkansas, how they are all different and alike, and the chance to see live examples up close. Bring your whole family to this fun and interactive program! Meeting place: Visitor Center Admission: Free 3:15 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. Ravenous Reptiles What do reptiles eat? Help Park Interpreter Susan as she feeds the reptiles at the visitor center. Although most people are fine with the program, please be aware that the animals will be eating live food. Bring your camera to capture this exciting program!
