Coach Frank Broyles to Speak at Program Recognizing Arkansas Razorback Black History
LITTLE ROCK– A program to recognize Arkansas Razorback black history has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 30, 2010, 12-1 pm at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center (MTCC), a museum of African American history. There will also be a special unveiling highlighting the legacy of black Razorback athletes. Former African-American Razorback athletes in partnership with MTCC, will host the event to acknowledge the 40-year racial integration history of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Long-time Athletic Director Frank Broyles will be the guest speaker. Athletes who broke ethnic barriers will also offer recollections. Muskie Harris, former Razorback football player, is spearheading this effort. “I grew up in a segregated world and playing for the Razorbacks was an opportunity to improve my life and my family. This event is also to pay respect to many of our parents who are no longer here,” Muskie Harris said. The 1974 defensive tackle Brison Manor is also on program to speak, “Coach Broyles made us feel comfortable and needed. He was making an effort to bring in more black student-athletes. He was a proven coach at the time,” he said.

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center is a museum of African American history. MTCC is a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage with a mission to collect, preserve and interpret black history in Arkansas. MTCC is located at 501 West Ninth Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. The other agencies of the Department of Arkansas Heritage include Delta Cultural Center, Historic Arkansas Museum, Old State House Museum, Arkansas Arts Council, Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission.
