Dance Coalition (a Northwest Arkansas non‐profit group of choreographers and dancers) has paired up again with the THEA Foundation and Arkansas Dance Network, to present A Jazz Dance Workshop with Broadway Star Bill Hastings on Sunday, October 10th, 2010 at the University of Arkansas HPER Building, Room 220, 155 Stadium Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72701. Mr. Hastings has performed in over forty musicals and plays on Broadway and in National touring productions. He danced for Bob Fosse for years and now teaches master classes in New York and around the world in such places as the Royal Copenhagen Ballet. You won’t want to miss this wonderful opportunity! Workshop classes begin at 1:30 p.m. and finish at 6:30 p.m. Tuition for the afternoon workshop is only $20, and includes a snack, as well as a THEA Foundation t‐shirt when you register onlineat www.theafoundation.org. During the workshop, dancers will also have the opportunity to work with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art staff members Niki Ciccotelli, director of education, and Eve Rosin, guided tour coordinator. They will lead the dancers through a 30‐35 minute workshop where they will explore seven different paintings, and learn about the artists who created them. The dancers will then recreate the images in teams, using only their bodies to represent the people and objects in the artwork. Through this practice, they will fully immerse themselves into the meaning of the artwork, and show us how THEY see it ‐ and help us all see something new through their eyes. Dance Coalition, Arkansas Dance Network and the THEA Foundation have teamed up in this effort to bring a unique and excellent dance education opportunity to Northwest Arkansas area dancers. The THEA Foundation works to bring the arts and scholarships to young people because of the benefits they can reap in all areas of their lives from arts exposure. Dance Coalition is committed to seeing the art of dance and dance performance flourish in Northwest Arkansas, making dance education and performance opportunities available to this area’s talented dancers and choreographers. Through the THEA Foundation, Arkansas Dance Network, and Dance Coalition, Bill Hastings has presented workshops in Little Rock and Fayetteville for the past four years, and will again be offering a workshop at UALR during this visit to Arkansas, too. Tuition is $20, and dancers must register online by visiting www.theafoundation.org. Class space is limited, and a spot in the class is only guaranteed by registering on the web. Dancers are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to sign‐in for class. To learn more about the THEA Foundation, visit www.theafoundation.org.
