Clinton School to host outdoor lecture series

LRCVB, Clinton School to host outdoor lecture series LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau and the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service are proud to announce "Place, Parks and Politics,” a four-week, outdoor speaker series this fall in Little Rock's River Market Pavilion. Lectures will occur on Wednesdays at noon on October 13, 20, 27 and November 3. Guests are invited to bring lunches and drinks or purchase them from River Market vendors. The covered pavilion is located behind the River Market building on President Clinton Avenue. The schedule includes: Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 12:00 p.m. “Building Vibrant Urban Areas, One Brick at a Time,” Mike Carrier, president of the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 12:00 p.m. “Parks’ Place in the Urban Environment,” Jodie Adams, president of the National Recreation and Parks Association in Springfield, Mo. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 12:00 p.m. “Creating a Culture of Good Health,” Chip Johnson, mayor of Hernando, Miss. Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 12:00 p.m. “Election 2010: Evaluating the Rising Republican Hypothesis in Arkansas,” Dr. Janine Parry, University of Arkansas professor of political science and director of the Arkansas Poll “We are thrilled to bring in three representatives from cities in our neighboring states,” said Jim Rice, who manages the River Market for LRCVB. “Since the tragic bombing in 1995, Oklahoma City has been a leader in economic development through the arts, culture and sports. Also, Springfield is a leader in creating vibrant public parks and Hernando offers a national model for health and wellness.” In addition to three weeks of speakers centered on parks, wellness and vibrant urban communities, on Nov. 3 – the day after the fall elections – Dr. Janine Parry, founder and director of the Arkansas Poll, will analyze the election results and implications. "We're pleased to join with the Convention and Visitors Bureau to host this fall series," said Nikolai DiPippa, director of public programs at the Clinton School. “As we have said on many occasions, the River Market is like our student union and the fall is a perfect time of the year to launch an outdoor series there."
