Low Key Arts partners with The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and Maxine's to bring The Dexter Romweber Duo to Hot Springs on Wednesday, October 20th at the Historic Malco Theater. Dex Romweber is the master songwriter/frontman of the Flat Duo Jets, a band whose sound and style has informed and animated the likes of The White Stripes and The Black Keys. “Dex Romweber was and is a huge influence on my music. I owned all of his records as a teenager, and was thrilled at the fact that we were able to play together recently on tour. [He is] is one of the best kept secrets of the rock n roll underground.” —Jack White, White Stripes. Dex is joined for this performance by his sister, Sarah, who beats a mean drum. The documentary film, “Two Headed Cow”, focuses on Dex Romweber’s music career and struggle with mental illness and will be screened as part of The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival at 6PM. One of the most telling scenes from the film is watching Dexter take multiple prescriptions, explaining what each pill does. The film features archival footage of The Flat Duo Jets and continues to follow the elusive guitar player through to his current project. Jack White (White Stripes), Exene Cervenka, Cat Power and Neko Case appear in the film to confess their adoration for this influential musician. Following the film, Dex will treat the audience to a song and take questions. Later that night, The Dexter Romweber Duo will perform a full set at Maxine’s Pub. This is the duo’s first Hot Springs appearance and a rare chance to see and hear one of underground rock's most influential and overlooked performers of our time. “Dex’s guitar conjures the primal ghosts that live in the scratchy grooves of 45s that snake through our collective musical DNA; some are well known, most long forgotten, but no one can draw the line between Link Wray and Marlene Dietrich and have it make sense like Dex’. “And when he sings, you get the sense, sometimes uneasy, that here is a man that HAS to sing, has to let it out, or all the pain, longing and triumph of the heroes and hep cats and sinners and losers he sings about will tear him apart from the inside”. – Bloodshot Records http://www.myspace.com/dexterromweberduo Opening the show, will be Andrew Anderson (Austin, TX) and Kenneth Brian (Nashville, TN). Showtime is at 9:00 and admission is $5.
