Buffalo National River Partners Sponsor February Library Program on
Historic Sites and Early Ozark Settlement
The Buffalo National River Partners will present Suzie Rogers Liles
speaking on “Pioneers, Presidents and Paddlers: What Historic Sites Tell
Us About Early Settlers and the History of the Ozarks,” at the Boone County
Library on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. Boone County
Library is located at 211 W. Stephenson in Harrison, Arkansas. Suzie
Rogers Liles was the park's first staff historian, researching and writing
many of the park's early historic studies and National Register
nominations. She moved to the Buffalo River in 1977 in time to become
acquainted with many of the river's long time residents and document their
stories. Suzie retired from the National Park Service in 2009, but
continues her interest in Buffalo River history. Suzie holds degrees in
history from Macalester College and the State University of New York.
Prior to moving to the Ozarks, she was Museum Curator for the Herbert.
