Mardi Gras Indians Funk Entourage 101 Runners Featuring Big Chief Monk Boudreaux To Play Historic Dreamland Ballroom and The Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa For Immediate Release February 3, 2011 A faction of the New Orleans cultural phenomena collectively known as Mardi Gras Indians, the 101 Runners, will deliver its unique fusion of tribal rhythms and swampy voodoo funk with a pair of shows in two of Arkansas’ most historic landmarks. A Hot Springs performance Friday, February 25, at the Arlington Hotel Resort & Spa marks the Indians’ Central Arkansas debut, followed by the following night’s rematch at Little Rock’s Historic Dreamland Ballroom on Saturday, February 26. Both celebrations begin at 7 p.m. Featuring Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, the Biggest of the Big Chiefs and the current Godfather of Mardi Gras Indian Funk, and decades-long collaborator with Wild Magnolias’ Bo Dollis, the 101 Runners are among a rare breed of living relics celebrating bloodlines with storylines dating back to the roots and origins of the Big Easy. Through the universal language of music, the Runners, self-described as a “heavy percussive Indian funk band,” link past with present by combining hypnotic sounds, mesmerizing costumes and centuries-old traditional lore with hip-shaking seductive undertones and electrified New Orleans funk grooves. Arkansas Convention & Event Marketing, Inc. invites one and all to join the Mardi Gras Party at a pair of our state’s most treasured cultural relics, Historic Dreamland Ballroom and the Arlington Hotel Resort & Spa. Admission to the Hot Springs show is $30, and $35 for the ballroom show in Little Rock, of which $5 from each ticket purchased supports efforts by Friends of Dreamland to further the Ballroom’s restoration. Costume attire is encouraged, yet not required, and our most decorated contest winner receives a 101 Runners gift assortment, as well as the rarest of opportunities to dance onstage with Mardi Gras Indians to culminate a celebration far above and beyond the stereotypical Mardi Gras themes of beads and booze.
