Hendrix faculty and students collaborate for piano concert Concert celebrates bicentennial of Franz Liszt’s birth CONWAY, Ark. (October 31, 2011) — A concert celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt (1811-1886) will be presented on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Reves Recital Hall on the Hendrix College campus. A second performance will be presented on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. The concerts will be presented by Dr. Norman Boehm, professor of music at Hendrix, and Annalisa Crosmer, a junior at Hendrix, on pianos. The concert will also feature tenor soloist Trevor Trietsch, a Hendrix senior, and the men of the Hendrix College Choir, directed by Dr. Nancy Fleming. The piano duo will be performing Liszt’s A Faust Symphony. The 19th century pianist and conductor’s symphony, inspired by Johann von Goethe’s drama, Faust, debuted in 1857 in Weimar, Germany. It was not intended as a retelling of Goethe’s drama, but rather as a series of character studies, depicting Faust, Gretchen, and Mephistopheles, respectively. This performance will feature Liszt’s own arrangement for two pianos, and will incorporate his later revision of the final movement, featuring men’s chorus and tenor soloist. The performance will be introduced with an illustrated talk by Dr. Boehm. For more information on the concerts, please contact Dr. Boehm at (501) 450-1247.
