Jeannie Stone art opening

Russellville Artist Shows Works at Little Rock Church Russellville artist Jeannie Stone will be on hand to launch a solo show at The Gallery at St. James in Little Rock on Sunday, November 13, before and after the 8:30, 9:30 and 10:55 a.m. services. The gallery's tradition of hosting artists reflects the growing movement in churches to embrace the Holy Spirit's manifestation through art by incorporating current art into sacred worship. The gallery is housed, in fact, in a transition space linking Jones Hall to the sanctuary, so that worshippers pass through the exhibit on their way to the service. Rather than a traditional reception, the artist is available to meet before and after morning services on opening day. Stone’s oil paintings feature atmospheric landscapes, religious figures and still lifes. A 45-inch square rendering of the Boxley Valley Baptist Church in the Buffalo National River region, titled In the Holy Hills and Hollers, a composition of cowboys gathered around a campfire, titled Cowboy Confessions, and twin giant Santas are focal points for the 25 piece exhibit. Also included is Morning Commute, recently juried into the 2nd Annual ALA Art Show at Cantrell Gallery. Stone, named the 2010 River Valley Artist of the Year, has lived in Russellville 17 years but grew up in No. Little Rock and graduated from Mt. St. Mary Academy. She is currently pursuing a degree in Fine Art at Arkansas Tech University. The general public is invited to view the artwork between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays and before and after each Sunday morning service. All pieces are for sale and 20 percent of the sale price is kept by the church for their art acquisition fund. For more information, call (501)217-6700. Saint James United Methodist Church is located at 321 Pleasant Valley Drive. The exhibit will run through December. To view some of the art included in the show, visit www.djstoneart.com.
