10th Annual Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour September 16, 17 & 18, 2011 The 10th annual "Off the Beaten Path" Studio Tour will be held September 16, 17 & 18, 2011 This free self-guided driving tour of artists’ studios in Mountain View, Calico Rock, Pineville, and Fox, includes the diverse and exciting work of more than 30 local artists in the setting where their art is created. These artists will open their private working studios to the public on this special weekend from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The tour provides a unique opportunity to meet the artists in their own environment and see where and how they work as well as their artistic creations. Each year since the first tour in 2002, new artists have been added through a peer review process which considers the type and quality of work produced and the geographic location and accessibility of the artist’s studio. Eligible studios must be located within 30 miles of the Court House Square in Mountain View and must be the private working studio of the artist(s). Three new studios were added to the tour this year: woodworkers Paul Gillam Sr. and Paul Gillam Jr, Blue Mountain Woodworks; Jan Hickman, fiber artist; and Jim Tindall, painter. Other artists on the tour this year include Pam and Ed Alexander (garden art and photography), Joe Bruhin (wood fired pottery), David and Becki Dahlstedt (stoneware pottery), Linda Caperton (candles), Doris Fountain, (primitive folk art), Gwen Furey (stained glass and photography), Dana Shaeffer (tapestry and weaving), Leon Jennings (white oak baskets), Owen Rein (traditional American woodworking), Pat Thompson and Scott Riedy (blacksmiths), Jeanette Larson and Shawn Hoefer (fiber arts and wooden tools), Leon Creasey and Dwight Havens (woodturning), Sherman Anderson (wooden tops), Bernie Babak (leather, knives and antlers), Chere Taylor (polymer clay jewelry, wirework and handmade paper), Marc and Paulette Palmer (fine art, sculpture and art dolls), and painters Carolyn Cushing, Loretta Babak, Sue Coon, Ann Snyder, Beverly & Russ Wilhite and Joy Harp. Starting on Septenber 1st, you can register for the tour and pick up your free Tour Guidebook in Mountain View at the Chamber of Commerce and at the Arkansas Craft Gallery; in Calico Rock at the Visitors Center and at the Artists Cooperative; in Batesville at the Chamber of Commerce; and in Mountain Home at the Chamber of Commerce and at the Buffalo Coffee Co. located in the Baxter County Library.
