Living Local, Buying Local

Have you ever wondered where to buy fresh local produce? Or where you can purchase locally made products? Heifer International invites you to find the answers at the free family day at Heifer Village from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 in downtown Little Rock. Bring your family to explore not only Heifer Village but also activities that reveal why buying locally is fun and important to our community. The Family Day will include a mini-market featuring local farmers and vendors providing demonstrations and perhaps some samples. The Root Café will be on hand to demonstration food preservation; The Green Corner store will display an array of offerings from local artisans and suppliers; North Pulaski Farms will be here talking about their organic produce, and of course Heifer Ranch will be highlighting their community supported agriculture program and how people can take action and get involved. Of course a family day wouldn’t be complete without a visit from our Ranch animal ambassadors and the many hands on activities such as creating your own “What’s in Season” wheel, or traversing our “Life of a Tomato” obstacle course. Big kids and little kids alike will enjoy a Saturday filled with fun and exploration at Heifer Village. “Living Local, Buying Local” is a free event and reservations are not required. The event takes place at Heifer Village at 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, Ark. 72202. For more information, visit www.heifer.org/heifervillage or call 501-907-8800.
