17th annual Bikers for Babies

Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism If you’re a motorcyclist and like riding for a good cause or if you just like to come and provide support then circle Sept. 17 on your calendar. That’s the date for the 17th annual Bikers for Babies, benefitting the Arkansas March of Dimes Chapter. Riders depart from Toad Suck Park at 11 a.m. The route runs from the park, located west of Conway, along Ark. 60 to Ark. 113 South to the junction with Ark. 10. It continues east along Ark. 10, which becomes Cantrell Road, to downtown Little Rock. Riders will turn right on Chester Street then go east on 3rd Street, ending at the Clinton Presidential Center. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Toad Suck Park followed by a meeting of participants at 10:45 a.m. The $30 registration fee to take part includes a Bikers for Babies t-shirt and admission to the celebration at the Clinton Library. Activites scheduled include a barbecue lunch, live music, and motorcycle vendors. A highlight of the event is the appearance of the Farmers Insurance Throwback Chevy that was driven by NASCAR star and Arkansas native Mark Martin in a May race. The event is not limited to motorcycle riders. Everyone is invited to the Clinton Center festivities which begin at noon. Lunch and entertainment are available for $10. “We’re so proud of the interest and commitment to this cause that Arkansans have shown over the past several years,” said Jay Robison, co-chair of the 2011 ride. “We have a team that is passionate about raising funds to benefit Arkansas’s babies that need help. Join us on the ride for fun and fellowship that will have a positive impact on many Arkansas families.” Funds raised from the ride go directly to the Arkansas Chapter of the March of Dimes, which works to fight against birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Programs offered include a prematurity awareness campaign to education and support for families with babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The Bikers for Babies Ride success ranks Arkansas among the top 10 states in raising funds for the March of Dimes. Visit www.bikersforbabies.org to register.
