Poet Camille Dungy to Speak on Conservation

Poet Camille Dungy to Speak on Conservation at CALS Event The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) will host Camille T. Dungy, who will present "We Live Here: Writing and Living Of and Off the Natural World" on Tuesday, September 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Library's Darragh Center at 100 Rock Street. A book signing and reception will follow. The session is free, but registration is requested. RSVP to mmurray@cals.org or 918-3032. As part of The Language of Conservation, the program's purpose is to deepen awareness of the environment through poetry installations in zoos and corresponding programs in public libraries. The 2011 Winner of the American Book Award, Silver Medal winner for the California Book Award, and two-time winner of the Northern California Book Award, Dungy is author of three books, including Smith Blue and Suck on the Marrow, and has edited Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry and two other anthologies. Dungy teaches Creative Writing at San Francisco State University. CALS is one of five libraries included in The Language of Conservation, an initiative of Poets House in partnership with CALS, the Little Rock Zoo, and a consortium of zoos and libraries nationwide, made possible by a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The zoo exhibits feature poetry that invites viewers to contemplate the interdependence of humans, animals, and the natural world.
