Frog Listening and Identification Workshop

Spring is here and I’m sure you have heard the nightly calls of our local frogs and toads. Have you ever wondered who exactly is orchestrating this symphony of nature sounds? Come to Lake Ouachita State Park for this FREE workshop to learn to identify the local frogs and toads by their calls. Visual memory aids and handouts will be provided to all participants. In addition, you will learn why frogs and toads are important, why they are in trouble, and what you can do to help them. The first session on Friday, April 10th, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., is a pre-requisite for the second session on Saturday, April 11th, 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 am. Saturday’s session includes an introduction to wetlands and frog monitoring for the FrogWatch USA national network administered by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Citizen scientists around the country listen to frogs and toads from February through August at a site of their choice and submit their findings to a national database. For more about FrogWatch USA go to www.arkansasfrogsandtoads.org. To attend this free two-session workshop, please call Susan Adkins at Lake Ouachita State Park, 501-767-9366, to register.
