EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. The New Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs opens for the 42nd time this May with more changes focusing on the miracles of Christ and culminating with a magnificent recreation of the ascension. The play continues an evolution with parables and text from different gospels in The New Testament, focusing on more miracles Christ performed in the days before his crucifixion and the days before his ascension. Those returning to see the play can still expect to find more than 150 actors and live animals on the 550-foot stage, but more than 90 percent of the scenes are new from previous productions, along with the introduction of a new character Satan. ³New visitors will find an experience like no other,² said Rick Mann, artistic director and one of the actors who portrays Jesus. Also new to the production is ³Top of the Mountain² Christian gospel music and comedy dinner theater pre-show featuring the award-winning Texans trio. Other on-site exhibits include The Living Bible Tour, the Tabernacle, Sacred Arts exhibit, world renowned Bible exhibit, Museum of Earth History, Christ of The Ozarks, a section of the Berlin wall and the Little Church in the Grove. Living Bible Tour hours are from noon to 5 p.m., and all other exhibits are open noon until 30 minutes before the play. Value packages are available for the play, dinner and all on-site attractions for $60 for adults and $30 for children. Tickets to the play are $25 for adults and $12 for children, but discounts are available online. Performances run Friday, May 1, through Saturday, Oct. 24, at 8:30 p.m. nightly, excluding Wednesdays and Sundays. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. after Labor Day. Special Sunday performances will be May 24 and Sept. 6. For more information, visit GreatPassionPlay.com or call 1-800-882-7529.
