Portrait Artiest Featured at Fairfield Bay Library Freda May, an accomplished portrait artist, is currently displaying her artwork at Fairfield Bay Library, 369 Dave Creek Parkway, from now until August 8, 2010. Freda was born in Nigeria (a British Colony at the time), where her father was a leprosy control officer. They moved to England in 1958 and she graduated from Nursing School in London in 1971. She came to Arkansas to work as a R.N. in 1982 in Newport and met her husband, Ken there. Five years ago, Freda began painting classes given by Pat Smith in Conway. She has taken various workshops since moving to Fairfield Bay in 1991 from Doris Sexson, Gloria Harrison and Don Dane. Currently she is studying in Clinton with Joyce Burns and paints with the North Central Arkansas Artist League on Mondays and Thursdays. During the winter months, Freda attends classes from June Stock in Mission Texas where she and her husband spend their winter months. Her awards are numerous from the Van Buren County Fair, Northeast Arkansas District Fair and Arkansas State Fair. Her favorite medium is oil. The public is invited to view Freda’s artwork during the hours of Mon.-Wed. and Friday, 10:00-5:00 p.m., Tues-Thursday 1:00-4:00, Saturday, 9:30-12:30.
