Hair Book and Lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, Music by Galt MacDermot July 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 August 1, 6, 7, 8 "...be free, no guilt, be whoever you are, do whatever you want, just as long as you don't hurt anyone." This Utopian philosophy incorporates many concepts which supply lyrics for this landmark show comprised almost exclusively of rock musical numbers. In the Age of Aquarius, a time of harmony and understanding, sex and drugs are used as vehicles to re-define reality and defy the establishment. Skin colors are insignificant, imagination lends beauty to an otherwise dreary existence, and the spirit of communal living finds its expressions in yearnings, affection, common needs, awareness and a desire to partake. As a social commentary, Hair provides an insight into the philosophy of the flower children of the 1960's, but its clear anti-war message still applies. As the first and most successful of the rock musicals, Hair provides a new element in musical theater entertainment. Directed by Byron Taylor, Music Direction by Lori Isner.
