The UALR Gallery Program presents a series of exhibitions in collaboration with the Arkansas/Mexico 2010 Celebration. The year 2010 marks two historic events in the history of Mexico - the 200th anniversary of the independence and establishment of the Mexican State in 1810 and the 100th anniversary of the 1910 Revolution to overthrow the dictator Porfirio Diaz. El Grito (The Cry for Independence) Gallery I and II – August 16 – October 10, 2010 This exhibition features contemporary artists with ties to the Mexican-American experience. Many of these artists deal with issues of identity in a social-political context. Immigration has become a poignant issue that often evokes a polemic discourse. Artists are not shying away from this conversation and many of the artworks featured in this exhibition deal with notions of borders and boundaries.
