(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – The sights and sounds of the holiday season have already begun in this destination town. Three seasonal music shows run through Dec. 11. The Ozark Mountain Hoe-Down’s Christmas Music Show plays on Friday and Saturday nights. The same schedule applies to the Great Passion Play's Christmas Show (5-7 p.m.) And “A Season of Celebration,” Pine Mountain Theater’s Christmas show, runs Thursday through Saturday nights, except Thanksgiving. But the 2010 Eureka Springs Christmas Festival really begins to snowball when two big events take place the day after Thanksgiving. Both “Santa in the Park” and the new “Find an Elf” contest will entertain visitors Nov. 26 from 4-7 p.m. in Eureka Springs’ historic downtown. Kids (and pets) of all ages can visit with Santa and have their picture taken with him that day in Basin Spring Park. Meanwhile, live “elves” will be hidden all around downtown. Anyone spotting these ladies in green will have a chance to win holiday prizes, including portrait sessions with Santa. The following weekend is packed with seasonal events, starting with the 44th Annual Silver Tea, benefiting the Carnegie Library, on Dec. 2 at the 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa. The Living Windows displays are in downtown storefronts beginning at 3 p.m. on Dec. 3, followed by the heartwarming Eureka Springs Christmas Parade of Lights at 6 p.m. The Preservation Society's Candlelight Tour of Homes is scheduled for Dec. 4. Santa’s Brunch at the Crescent Hotel rounds out the weekend’s festivities the following morning. City crews have completed extensive decorations of the springs on Spring Street. Eureka Springs homes and businesses will be decked out in their holiday finest when the town’s Christmas decorating contest begins Nov. 23. And the free, drive-through “Christmas Story In Lights” display on the grounds of the Great Passion Play is open nightly through Dec. 31. Eight more events later in December round out this year’s festival. For the complete schedule go online to www.eurekasprings.org and click on the Full Event Calendar, lower left.
