Gallery II – January 12 – February 13, 2011 A Spectacle and Nothing Strange - Photographs by Rebecca Sittler Schrock “I work at home in a quiet communication with objects, domestic spaces and light. As the light changes, I alter the objects physically, change their spatial relationships, or give them personalities within a suggested narrative. I work intuitively in order to cultivate shifting metaphors and associations – constructing images through a process similar to automatic writing. I often invest objects with narrative potential, suggest complexities of interpersonal relationships or pose questions concerning the nature of photography.” - Rebecca Sittler Schrock Fine art photographer, Rebecca Sittler Schrock, is driven by contrasts between insignificance and monumentality, humor and seriousness, surface and depth, the timeless and the timely. Rebecca utilizes photography's position between the appearance of reality and the suggestion of something more amorphous – creating shifting meanings within our vast mental networks of association. “A Spectacle and Nothing Strange” is a phrase borrowed from Gertrude Stein’s experimental writings and the title of Rebecca Sittler ongoing body of work.
