George Fisher: Presidential Cartoons, a traveling exhibition from The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, will be on exhibit January 3rd through February 28th in the East Arkansas Community College Fine Arts Center Gallery located in Forrest City. This selection of original artwork for over twenty cartoons by George Fisher, originally created for the Arkansas Gazette during the years 1976 – 1991, focuses specifically on Washington’s highest ranking official. Fisher gained national recognition for his work as an editorial cartoonist. In 1971, The Arkansas Arts Center was established as the repository for Fisher’s original drawings, including those made for the North Little Rock Times and The Arkansas Gazette until its closing in 1991. In this poignant but humorous exhibition, criticism begins with Nixon’s Watergate and continues through with cartoons about the Carter, Ford, Reagan, Bush and Clinton administrations. Sponsored locally by East Arkansas Community College, this is one of several traveling exhibitions available through The Arts Center’s State Services Department. Designed to be both educational and aesthetically appealing, these exhibits are organized by The Arts Center’s curatorial staff from the permanent collection or on loan from the artist. In addition to traveling exhibitions, The Arts Center’s State Services Department programs are sponsored by Bank of America; The Brown Foundation, Inc. of Houston; Horace C. Cabe Foundation, Stella Boyle Smith Trust; Centennial Bank; Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield; Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas; and Union Pacific. In addition, the programs are supported, in part, by grants from the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage. Daily hours for the EACC Fine Arts Center Gallery will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. or as scheduled for special group tours. There is no charge for admission.
