Four exhibits open in April at Arts & Science Center Four new exhibits – ranging from shows of works by young Arkansas artists to hands-on astronomy to art from the Center’s permanent collection – will open during April at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas in downtown Pine Bluff. Astronomy: It's a Blast includes hands-on science displays allowing future astronauts a chance to explore space. Astronomy: It’s a Blast will be open through September 25. Points of View, featuring oils and acrylic paintings from the Center’s permanent collection, will be on view now through April 23 in the Simmons Gallery. The Arts & Science Center’s permanent collection focuses on works by African-American, Arkansas and Southern artists. Don’t miss this opportunity to see some of this art. The Young Arkansas Artists exhibit, open now through April 15, comes to the Center through grants from the Arkansas Arts Council and the Pine Bluff School District. On display in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater Hall, these works demonstrate a great range from the outpouring of youthful expression to the more sophisticated artwork from the higher grade levels. Nature of Imagination: Pine Bluff High School Art Exhibition 2011 opens Saturday, April 30, in the Simmons Gallery and runs until July 15. The center, located at 701 Main St. in Pine Bluff, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1-4 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sunday. Support for the center is provided in part by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Hands-on science exhibits are offered through the Center’s partnership with Arkansas Discovery Network, a consortium of seven museums in Arkansas funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. For more information, contact the center at (870) 536-3375, info@artssciencecenter.org or visit the website.
