THE GIFT OF ART Melva King’s painting spans at least 40 + years just in Fairfield Bay. This spry octogenarian will be featured from April 21 to July 29th at Fairfield Bay Library, 369 Dave Creek Parkway in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. With her friend Jeanne Homuth, Melva started the North Central Arkansas Art League in 1976, meeting at various locations throughout the Bay. She and Jeanne drove to Heber Springs to take lessons from Glenda Turley, to Clinton for lessons from Joyce Burns. Others such as Richard Stephens and Sheila Parsons came to the Bay to offer them workshops. Melva had been a Navy veteran and decided that painting was her passion. She enrolled in a 4 year Famous Artist course and mailed her class exercises back and forth for them to critique her work. Painting outdoors with Bonnie Hookman began in the 1990’s when Melva refined her landscape techniques. When asked what medium she prefers, “Whatever I’m painting at the time, I have no favorite medium.” Still entering art shows, her works are soft and professional whether depicting flowers or golf courses. Her art friends have encouraged Melva to continue her artistic vision. The community and others have been blessed to have this lady share her knowledge and visual interpretation of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. The public is invited to view Melva’s work in the Library, Monday-Wednesday-Friday 10:00-5:00 pm, Tuesday and Thursday 1:00-4:00 pm and Saturdays, 9:30 am.-12:30 pm.
