Greg Thompson Fine Art to Host Charles Harrington Exhibition North Little Rock, AR – On Friday, July 15, 2011 from 5-8 pm, Greg Thompson Fine Art will host the opening of a new solo exhibition that showcases the talent of Arkansas artist Charles Harrington in conjunction with 3rd Friday Night Art Walk in the Argenta Arts District of North Little Rock. Harrington will be present during the opening reception. Charles Harrington: A Sense of Place will run through September 10, 2011 and will feature beautiful landscape scenes of Arkansas during all four seasons. As a landscape painter, Harrington is naturally drawn to those subjects that evoke what he calls, “a strong sense of place.” This sense of place may be subjective or objective; but most likely a combination of both. It derives from an accumulation of his own life experiences that include emotional, intellectual, and practical. In every case it is an essential component of the inspiration that drives his own creative process. As for the viewer of Harrington’s paintings, they will bring to the experience their own memories, emotions, and imaginations, shaping their own “sense of place.” Harrington says, “hopefully, the inspiration and the depth of feeling that motivated me to paint particular places will resonate with them in a meaningful way. Perhaps they too will sense a strong connection to the “places” that inspired the paintings.” On Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Greg Thompson Fine Art will host a gallery talk with Harrington. The cost is $10 and reservations are recommended as seating is limited. Greg Thompson Fine Art, established in 1995 as a private art consulting and art dealership, opened its public gallery space in June 2009. It is located at 429 Main Street in the historic Argenta area of North Little Rock that is quickly becoming the ‘arts district’ for Central Arkansas. The gallery is on the second floor of an historic building built in 1895 known as the Faucette Building and has over 3,000 square feet of public and private viewing space. Thompson spent several months designing his new space to look, feel and operate with the integrity and quality of similar galleries in New Orleans, New York and Paris. It boasts 18-foot ceilings, original hard wood floors, and clean white walls. “There is nothing like it in the state of Arkansas. It is quickly becoming a destination gallery for the South,” Thompson says. Greg Thompson Fine Art has received awards for the Best Gallery in Arkansas from the readers of At Home in Arkansas and AY Magazine and a 2011 Platinum Service Award from the readers of Soiree, along with being featured prominently in the New York Times Travel section as the place to view art in Central Arkansas.
