‘Twin’ demonstration is part of Second Saturday events HELENA-WEST HELENA – Delta Cultural Center plans a special artist presentation – and demonstration – on Saturday, Aug. 13, in conjunction with downtown Helena’s monthly Second Saturday Art Walk promotion. Identical twin artists Jerry and Terry Lynn of Memphis will present a demonstration at DCC’s Miller Annex at 223 Cherry St. of their unique painting technique – which includes contributions from both brothers to each of their paintings, signed “Twin.” The presentation begins at 3 p.m. Work by the Lynns is among those of 57 artists included in the DCC’s current exhibit, “Collaborations: Two Decades of African American Art, Hearne Fine Art 1988-2008,” displayed at the DCC Visitors Center at 141 Cherry St. The exhibit was created by Garbo Hearne of Hearne Fine Art in Little Rock, a prominent gallery focusing on African-American art. Artists included in “Collaborations” are among those whose works were featured at Hearne Fine Art over its first two decades of business. Included is a wide variety of mediums, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, printmaking, sculpture, fabric, and even a handmade doll. The DCC is pleased to have the opportunity to present the Lynns in a format that will allow them to discuss their work and the success of their careers – and demonstrate their unique technique, said DCC Curator Bill Branch. “They will paint a painting and talk about themselves and their art,” he explained. A final reception for the “Collaborations” exhibit will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, as part of the Second Saturday Art Walk festivities that evening. All living artists represented in “Collaborations” will be invited to attend the Sept. 10 reception, as will Garbo Hearne, Branch said, noting that he will also present a brief gallery talk that evening concerning the exhibit, and all artists present. Gallery hours at the DCC Visitors Center at 141 Cherry Street and the nearby DCC Depot at 95 Missouri Street are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. “King Biscuit Time,” the nation’s longest-running blues radio program, is hosted each weekday at the DCC Visitor’s Center by “Sunshine” Sonny Payne, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. “Delta Sounds,” co-hosted by DCC Assistant Director Terry Buckalew and Payne, is broadcast each Friday at 1 to 1:30 p.m. Interested persons can learn more about the DCC and its services and events online at www.deltaculturalcenter.com, or email info@deltaculturalcenter.com. The Delta Cultural Center shares the vision of all seven agencies of the Department of Arkansas Heritage – to preserve and promote Arkansas heritage as a source of pride and satisfaction. Other agencies within the department are the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, the Arkansas Arts Council, and the Natural Heritage Commission.
