Daniel Freeman Featured Artist for October Daniel Freeman will be the featured artist at River Valley Arts Center in Russellville, during the month of October. An Exhibit Opening Reception will be held Sunday, October 2 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. The artist will be present to do a gallery talk and answer questions. Freeman is a graduate of Dover High School and he credits his teacher, Tehya May, with giving him inspiration by painting him a path into the unknown. "She told me that I had more potential than anyone else in class and if I channeled my energies my art would take me places," he said. "She started talking to me about art scholarships and encouraged me to start submitting my artwork in competitions. I got psyched. I started staying late after school and not leaving until the janitor left." Freeman's hard work paid off and he won Best of Show at the Pope County Fair and won River Valley Arts Center' juried High School Competition and Exhibition in both his junior and senior years. He went on to receive his Bachelors in Fine Art and Graphic Design from Memphis College of Art in Memphis. As a student at Memphis College of Art he was commissioned to do the posters and ticket design for a the Mud Island Rap festival hosted by MTV. Later he designed billboard concept art for companies such as Chevrolet and Honda. As an intern at Thomson and Company in Memphis, he was given his first taste of the corporate art world where he felt stripped of his creativity and soon realized he wished to pursue a less forced use of his talent. He then went to work as a freelance artist, where the world of art was endless. For over two decades, Daniel has engulfed himself in painting, book design, drawing, photography, digital design as well as song through sound and poetry. Daniel is known for his clever narratives, which flow with his art in elegant fluidity, storytelling, paint throwing, and up-close meticulous fine-tuning art which leaves him searching for new wisdom to stimulate his brain on a day-to-day basis. Daniel has also achieved success in the fields of graphic design and mixed media portraits. As a fine artist, Daniel has had numerous individual shows in Arkansas as well as group shows in Tennessee and Louisiana. The most recent to note included July 2009, Daniel hosted his work as an introduction to the City of Russellville “The Actors for My Stories”. In January 2010, Daniel exhibited “Tear Drops in a Coffee Cup” at the River Valley Art Center. In his art talk for that show he explained his unique perspective on art and how it affects his being. In February of 2010, Daniel was solely commissioned by Russellville Junior Auxiliary to paint numerous murals to decorate and then auction at their charity ball. From this experience, he is currently partnered with local businesses to collaborate fresh ideas where his work is subject to design interiors, as well as murals for extravagant parties. Daniel’s steady focus has recently turned to creating logbooks with his most extreme creative imagery which is full of ranging emotion and narrative. The diversity of his stories will truly capture the essence of his artistic mind and allow the audience to connect fully with the spirit of the works. In a world full of striving artists, Daniel Freeman brings a level of creativity that is uniquely his own. He continues to push the boundaries of conventional as well as experimental thinking for his art making. He believes, “we live how we live, no one can tell us how to do it, that is what makes us who we are. That determines what we become.” His goal is not to conform audience views to his own, but simply to express the idiosyncratic perspective of his mind.
