Bevell Displays Artwork at ASU-Beebe Art Gallery BEEBE, Ark.-The Arkansas State University-Beebe Art Gallery will display the artwork of Laura Bevell, of Searcy, through Nov. 3, 2011. Bevell currently teaches art at Beebe High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Harding University and is working on her Masters degree in Studio Art at Harding. In 2007 and 2011 her paintings were accepted into the annual Mid-Southern Watercolorist Exhibition. Her 2007 painting Chester won the Past President’s Award. “If my paintings have a mission it is this: to bring glory to God and to help me remember that it takes a lot of faith and courage to venture into a blank paper or canvas,” Bevell said. “I trust color to escort me into the creative process. The use of the camera lens is where I first get a glimpse of my future painting. Watercolor is my favorite medium; it reminds me of the gem-like colors I ate as a child: wiggly Jello, icy popsicles, and juicy Jolly Ranchers. It’s always fresh and the colors linger like flavors on your palette.” “As a high school teacher I want to help my students remember what they have forgotten-that they once were children. This is my greatest challenge, both as an artist and as a teacher,” Bevell continues. The ASU-Beebe Art Gallery is located in the England Center, 201 N. Orange St. Beebe, Ark. It is open to the public Monday –Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information about the art gallery call (501) 882-4495.
