Tours offered of Historic 1870s Boxley Mill Have you ever wanted to go inside a mill? Buffalo National River and Buffalo National River Partners are pleased to announce ranger guided tours of the historic Boxley Mill on Fridays during the month of October. Appealing to all ages, groups wishing a tour must call and make a reservation. The caller can request either a 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. tour. Group size will be a minimum of 6. The beautiful Buffalo River area has more to offer than scenery. There is a history here and you can experience that history as you step back in time by entering the 1870s mill and tour the first floor of this structure. From 1870 until the 1950s this mill was handed down from generation to generation and was an important component of the community. Now, in the 21 st century, the mill is under a 50 year lease with the Gorgas Science Foundation in partnership with the National Park Service. The nation is fortunate that this foundation is willing to take on the preservation of such a stately historic building. The mill is not handicapped accessible, although parking is in sight of the mill and only a short walk is required to reach the mill, then 4 stair-steps to enter. Once inside there is a level ramp to walk. The closest restrooms and drinking water are located a couple miles north of the mill at the Lost Valley Day Use Area. Please call Ranger Linda Bishop at the Pruitt Information Station at 1-870-446-5373 and request a reservation for you and your group.
