HISTORIC ARKANSAS MUSEUM: Figurations: Works by Stephen Cefalo and Sandra Sell in the Trinity Gallery for Arkansas Artists. Stephen Cefalo works out of Little Rock and is cutting his own path in oil painting inspired by the style of the Old Masters. His work starts as a spectral image in his mind that transforms itself on the painting surface. Cefalo’s work is moody, complex and unapologetically human both in subject matter and technique. Cefalo received a BFA from School of Visual Arts in New York and an MFA from Indiana University in Bloomington. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Little Rock, Anaheim, Chicago and Cincinnati; and is held in several private and public collections. Sandra Sell is also an artist out of Little Rock who focuses on creating movement in her abstract wood sculptures. Sell is inspired by feelings or interpretations of a state of being. In this body of work Sell is able to transform a tactilely hard medium into something soft, almost figurative and emotional. Sell is finishing her MA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and is working as an apprentice to Arkansas sculptor Robyn Horn. Her work has been exhibited in Little Rock, Montgomery, Lancaster and North Little Rock. Historic Arkansas Museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays. Admission to the galleries and parking are free; tours of historic grounds are $2.50 for adults, $1 for children under 18 and $1.50 for senior citizens. The Historic Arkansas Museum Store is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1-4 p.m. on Sunday. Figurations will be on display Oct. 11 through Dec. 8.
