Gallery II – July 7 – 21, 2014 Julia Baugh, Ceramics MA Thesis Exhibition Reception: July 10, 5 – 7pm Landscape of Consciousness The mysterious ceramic forms created by julia Baugh incorporate textures, undulations, and recurring gouged shapes. She blends inner human anatomy, woodland forms, and underwater life together. Some of these characteristics are linked to her childhood, others to her experiences as an adult. Baugh’s work holds, hides and partially reveals familiar concepts, feelings, or memories in figurative pieces. Julia Baugh first attended UALR in her late teenage years. At the age of 25, she went into the medical field as a respiratory therapist. Working in the medical field gave her an admiration for human anatomy. She practiced as a respiratory therapist for ten years - working in Little Rock and San Francisco. She took her first wheel throwing class at Ruby’s Clay Studio in northern California. In November of 2009, Baugh returned to Little Rock and as an outlet for herself she took a wheel throwing class at the Arkansas Art Center. After encouragement from the instructor of the class, she took an independent study wheel throwing class at the University of Arkansas Little Rock where she began working toward her M.A. in Studio Art.
