Arkansas falls in overtime November 23, 2013 at 8:43 p.m.

Just a major talent deficiency and the recruiting does not appear to be going well. Our team is noticeably slower than every team we have played including Samford. Trying to compete in the SEC West with slow players who are 1 star recruits is not pleasant. With the exception of Henry, the best players in AR head to Alabama. This was to be expected and next year will be no better. We need an SEC QB, linebackers and a secondary. Arkansas has a long history of horrible d-backs but this group is by far the worst. If all goes well in the next few years we might rise to 3rd or 4th in our division. For now, we're Vandy without the smart people. But hey, we've got nice locker rooms and a well paid staff. Just gotta be patient.

Razorbacks’ Powell, Young considering their options March 13, 2013 at 9:22 a.m.

Both guys are very good college players but have glaring deficiencies from an NBA perspective. Young is great at getting to the rim but shoots around 23% from the three point line. He has no mid range game to speak of and is not strong enough to endure the NBA. Every team at the next level has monster shot blockers and Young poses little threat from the perimeter.

Powell is a classic Tweener. Too small to play power forward and not the kind of slasher you want at small forward. That being said, he is skilled enough to give some good minutes and has become a much better shooter.

Wish both of them the best but would like to see them complete their degrees. Leaving early should be reserved for those "can't miss" prospects who have nothing left to improve upon in college. These guys have more work to do.

John Tyson resigns from UA Board of Trustees February 16, 2013 at 12:12 a.m.

Good riddance. Please don't replace him with another blowhard whose sole achievement is being born a Tyson. Daddy's money does not a good board member make. Mr. Tyson's absence is an instant improvement to the system.

How bad is it in Washington? January 1, 2013 at 2:19 p.m.

Your comments about Biden are spot on. Having that guy in any position of leadership is truly scary, but a heartbeat away from the presidency is a nightmare. Our current president is simply incompetent due to his lack of any meaningful leadership experience and no apparent ability to do anything but lecture. That leaves us with the egomaniacs in Congress who exempt themselves from the laws governing the rest of us leaving them out of touch with reality outside the beltway.

The Republicans are watching their base splinter into subgroups comprised of anti tax small government tea partiers and social libertarian / fiscal conservatives. They know they want votes but have no real idea how to get them or from whom they might come. The Democrats are led by utopia seeking nuts like Pelosi and Reid bolstered by Obama's successful due to simplicity class warfare. They continue calling for the elusive fair shot as if government can actually impact personal responsibility, drive and desire to achieve. Both parties throw money at a failed education system held hostage by teachers unions who care nothing about the students they are supposed to serve. They create agency upon agency to hire people to do nothing but get in the way. Sadly, we are on the way to exactly what we need, a meltdown of epic proportions. The poor will become more poor in years to come and the fair shot even more implausible. The more complicated government makes our lives the more effort and intelligence will be required to navigate. More people will simply lay down and file for disability assisted by the growing legions of attorneys running ads offering to help them do so. Social Security's rolls will expand beyond the already unsustainable numbers and the world's largest Ponzi scheme will continue to crumble.

I could go on but it's the first day of the new year. Those of us reading and thinking about Mr. Brummet's column will be fine. We will pay higher taxes but we have done that before. What we will not do is run for office...... we're too busy working. Happy New Year!

Bielema named head coach at Arkansas December 4, 2012 at 3:16 p.m.

Good hire! Despite what some of our delusional fans might think, Arkansas is not the most attractive job in college football. This guy believes in defense and has been successful at WI. Give him at least three years to recover from the lost season and we will be competitive. I hope he gets a long term, lucrative contract that will give him time to build. Glad it's over!!

Long tells Hogs they’ll get coach within 2 weeks November 27, 2012 at 9:47 a.m.

James Franklin would be a great move. He has Vandy playing extemely well and is proving to be an excellent recruiter. His comment "That answer will be resolved very quickly" sounds like he could be the one unless it was somehow taken out of context. We will know soon.

Obama re-elected as president of the United States November 6, 2012 at 11:14 p.m.

Perplexing result but life goes on. Here's hoping Obama proves me wrong. We all need him to bring his best for the next four years.

Arkansas fans must lump it for time being September 30, 2012 at 1:26 p.m.

Wally is correct that Petrino recruited "offensive" players. The way they are playing is offensive to any hog fan still watching. We ignored Petrino's lack of character while he piled up the wins but he would not ever have been a long term winner. He has an established history of getting fans drunk on wins and then slipping out before the party gets busted. Jeff Long merely short circuited the inevitable. The recovery will be slow and painful but it will happen. This time let's start with a solid foundation by finding a coach wants to build something other than his resume'.

Razorbacks gigged by Aggies, 58-10 September 29, 2012 at 7:22 p.m.

Since Petrino cared nothing about defense I'm not certain we would be doing much better with him coaching. We also miss Joe Adams and company a lot more than we might have anticipated. This whole episode will take a minimum of three years to get past. We are obviously short on talent and the interim coaching staff can't be expected to restock. Just remember, Petrino would never have beaten Alabama due to his lack of respect for defense. Sooo, lets find a real coach and get the rebuilding process started.

Righting the oh-so-wrongs September 9, 2012 at 10:26 p.m.

What is it about 16 trillion that you people don't understand? It makes no difference who wins the election, we are in serious trouble. The social programs will be changed out of necessity. The money is not there and no amount of whining will change that. Neither party wants to acknowledge the inevitable but the clock is ticking.
