Statewide health rankings by county

A new report published by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ranks the health of counties nationwide. In Arkansas, Benton County is listed as the most healthy, while Ouachita County is listed as the least healthy. The counties are ranked 1-75 — 1 being the best score possible and 75 being the worst. Click on the county to see its ranking.

The subrankings, which are used to calculate the county's overall health, include:

  • Mortality: Premature death (years of potential life lost before age 75 per 100,000 pop.)
  • Morbidity: Reported poor or fair health, average number of poor physical health days (past 30 days), average number of poor mental health days (past 30 days) and low birthweight (percent of live births with weight < 2500 grams)
  • Health Behaviors: Tobacco use, diet and exercise, alcohol use and sexual activity
  • Clinical Care: Access to care and quality of care
  • Social and Economic Environment: Education, employment, income, family & social support and community safety
  • Physical Environment: Environmental quality and built environment (access to recreational facilities and health foods; percentage of fast-food restaurants)
