Homeowner justified in shooting at intruder, prosecutor says

A homeowner near Mountain Home was justified in shooting at a man who tried three times to enter his house, a prosecutor said.

Fourteenth Judicial District Prosecutor Ron Kincade said he is considering charges against the wounded man, who remains in critical condition at a Missouri hospital.

The man, Larry Copas, was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed around midnight Sunday, hours before he purportedly tried to break into Jeremy Ealey's home on Timberlane Road.

In tthat accident a deputy discovered a car that had wrecked in a ditch on Timberlane Road.

A man later identified as Henry Nielsen Jr. ambled toward the deputy, unsteady on his feet and slurring his speech.

     During a search, several prescription medications were found in a small metal canister in his pocket, according to the sheriff's office. Drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle, authorities said. They were able to determine that Nielsen had fled the scene after the accident.

Nielsen faces charges of driving while intoxicated, careless driving and possession of a controlled substance.

More than four hours after the accident, deputies found Copas covered in blood on the back porch of the Ealey home, shot in the head and lower abdomen.
